Q: How long have you practiced yoga and what other forms of exercise do you like to do?
I started practicing yoga when I retired in 2013. I play racketball, work out on an elliptical I bought during the pandemic, and enjoy biking (including a Citibike to YogaSpark!).
Q: What brought you to YogaSpark?
I walked by one day six years ago and decided to check it out. Nikki and Julia were welcoming, the facility looked great, and I liked the vibe.
Q: What do you love about practicing hot power yoga?
In addition to all the regular physical and mental benefits of yoga, I love the heat and the sweat.
Q: Can you give a word or phrase that describes yoga to you?
Life-enhancing.
Q: What's your current favorite song to flow to?
So hard to pick one, as I have many playlists from various yoga instructors, but how about “We are the World” by Carmen de Silva, which my first instructor often played.
Q: Do you have a favorite quote?
“Estoy feliz, soy feliz” I am quoting myself as this is my sankalpa when I do Yoga Nidra (which I first did at a retreat in Spain), and it essentially means “I am happy now, I am a happy person.”
Q: What yoga pose do you love practicing right now?
After 10 years of practice, I can finally do a reasonable crow pose (but not always). I also love rolling up vertebrae-by-vertabrae from a forward fold to a position with arms extended overhead (although many instructors do not do it slowly enough for me to fully enjoy the experience).
Q: Tell us one non yoga factoid about you
Factoid # 1: I was struck by lightning when I was 18.
Factoid #2: In 2019, I spent four months traveling throughout South America with my son, including a yoga retreat in the Sacred Valley in Peru. I am now planning a trip this winter with my daughter that includes a yoga retreat in the Amazon in Peru.
