Q: How long have you practiced yoga and what other forms of exercise do you like to do?
I’ve been pretty dedicated to yoga for about 3.5 years; prior to yoga I ran a few half marathons so occasionally I might run but I’m more likely to go for a long walk with friends and my dog
Q: What brought you to YogaSpark?
I was in the mood for a change and liked the energy of YogaSpark. The teachers are awesome, there is a fun vibe, and I feel accomplished when I leave class exhausted and dripping in sweat
Q: What do you love about practicing hot power yoga?
The opportunity to be fully present for the hour. I also love it when the teacher gives a cue that clicks and I suddenly "get" the pose. I also think it's cool to learn all the different things your body can do; yoga definitely inspires goals for aging. And ofc I love the cold towel and shavasana!
Q: Can you give a word or phrase that describes yoga to you?
Focus. Through yoga I realized that when I’m truly present and focus on what’s happening on my own mat I have better concentration and strength. When I get distracted by what others are doing on their mats I tend to lose focus and fall over. I try to keep this with me and concentrate on what I can control and not get distracted by others
Q: What's your current favorite song to flow to?
Anything on Sam’s playlists
Q: Do you have a favorite quote?
Jenny Ray recently commented that we can’t control much in the world but we can control our breath. So true, simple and important to remember. Another fave is the lyric which reminds us that the “trick is to surrender to the flow” - I use this all the time
Q: What yoga pose do you love practicing right now?
I’m not sure if love is the right word but I am dedicated to working toward the elusive handstand. I am always a fan of Warrior 3, and I feel good when I pull off a decent side crow
Q: Tell us one non yoga factoid about you
I recently completed my certification to become a mediator. I love so many things about mediation, but I am grateful to have a grounding yoga practice when sessions get a little wild and nutty
